Education, in my eyes, is to learn and be inspired by the knowledge you obtain. School must be a fun place to be in order to grab the attention of the students, or else students would rather be on his or her phone or sleep. My physics teacher, during junior year of high school, is the definition of what school should be. He inspires everyone in the class towards the subject at hand. Due to the inspiration led to knowledge that most people wouldnt have if you run a clock in- clock out outlook. He made the class fun by having group work, labs, class discussion, and experiments that he performed. These videos could range from what we were actually learning about, whether it was sound, gravity, or light. Some days he would play us a video of an interesting thing about space research. Most t eachers that play a video people tend to lay their head down and sleep, but in his class, everyone wanted to know what was being said; therefore, everyone paid attention and didnt cause any ruckus. What is the importance of having a trusted view of the data? What is the Black Book model? Explain the strategic benefit of the Black Book model. Answers: Answer 1 Electronic record management is a program or a set of programs that is designed to store records digitally. Generally a software is used in creation and maintenance of records. Business Intelligence analytics refers to use of different technologies, application and practices for collection, integration, analysis and proper presentation of business information (Chen, Chiang Storey, 2012). Data mining deals with the examination of one or more pre existing database gathering certain required information (Wu et al., 2014). Text mining on the other hand refers to the process of derivation of quality information from text or unstructured information. Big data analytics refers to the idea and strategy of investigating large and different or varied types of data sets, which helps in uncovering the hidden patterns and unknown correlations (Kambatla et al., ). Data discovery is related to business analytics and deals with the collection of data from different databases. Enterprise architecture can be defined as a conceptual blueprint for defining the structure and operations of a particular organization (Lapalme, 2012). It examines how an organization will be able to achieve its goals, both current and future. Management information system can be defined as a computerized database for organizing and managing the financial operations and information in an organized manner (Laudon Laudon, 2016). It is capable of producing regular reports associated with the operations of the management in every level. Data life cycle can be defined as a sequence of stages that gives an overview of a data from its initial generation to its archival or deletion (Chen Zhao, 2012). There are six major stages in a data life cycle, which are generation or data capture, maintenance, active use, publication, archiving and purging. Cloud computing is a process and use of a network based on remote that are hosted over internet that helps in managing, storing and processing the data instead of using a local server. It can be also termed as delivery of computing services over internet (Dinh et al., 2013). Answer 2 Data and text mining helps in analyzing the customers behavior and market competition from the set of collected data. This not only improves competitive advantage in business, but also helps in identifying the latest trends in the market place (Witten, et al., 2016). Since text mining deals with examination of unstructured data as well, it helps an organization in risk and threat detection. Furthermore, it increases customer engagement and helps in taking better business decisions, thus creating business value for the organization. Answer 3 There are certain issues that are applicable to cloud computing. The different risks are as follows (Zissis Lekkas, 2012)- There is a high chance of data breach and unauthorized access to the customer and business data stored over an insecure business network. Therefore data security concern is one of the major problems associated with cloud computing. Cloud computing includes dependency on service providers. For ensuring uninterrupted services, it is essential to acquire a vendor service. Selection of a proper vendor is another major problem associated with cloud computing. The problems associated with cloud computing can be solved by implementing proper security mechanisms such as encryption and authentication to prevent breach of the data stored in cloud computing (Arora, Parashar Transforming, 2013). The problem associated with vendor selection can however be mitigated by the maintaining a legal agreement between the vendor and the client. The cloud computing vendor should be trusted enough to allow data access (Jadeja Modi, 2012). Answer 4 The EIS was developed and implemented to equip the senior managers a proper knowledge of data resources (internal and external) including the key performance indicators (KPIs). The KPIs are associated with their specific requirements. The EIS was a complete failure. The problems that executives found with the EIS was that only half of the data provided by the EIS implemented was associated to the decision making and analysis of the employees at the corporate level. Furthermore, the data was not accessible or available when needed. The two main reasons of the problem are as follows- The IT architecture of the EIS was not designed for customized reporting as it was based on financial accounting rules. The user interface was quite complicated and therefore, the executives could not easily review the KPIs. In order to make the EIS more efficient, the CIO worked with the task force for designing and implementing completely new EA. Proper policies of data governance were implemented in order to standardize the different data formats. The benefits or advantages of the new IT architecture were that, its process was more business driven instead of financial reporting and therefore it was easier to make changes or modify. Furthermore, there was need of fewer IT resources for the system maintenance. The main benefit of data governance is that it eliminates the costly and time consuming ad hoc analysis. Answer 5 POS captures data from retail channels and uses it to create customer profiles. In Coca-Cola, huge volume of data is analyzed in order to make the departments more and better time sensitive. POS data can be analyzed and can be used for supporting the collaborative planning and forecasting and therefore, it is important for Coca-cola to process the important data in real time. Coca-cola attempts to create favorable customers experience by implementing data governance program. It further makes use of the Big data to understand the need and preferences of the customers. Having a trusted view of the data helps in strategic business planning, which further increases the profit margin of the company along with the enhancement of the customers experience. Black Book model brings together the detailed data of the 600+ flavors that is needed for preparing the orange juice for creating a consistent taste. The model helps in specifying the process of creating a consistent taste. The strategic benefit of Black book model is that it defines the specific relationship between the variable that reduces the uncertainty associated with a business process. Definition of E-Banking E-banking is defined as the automated delivery of new and traditional banking products and services directly to customers through electronic, interactive communication channels. E-banking includes the systems that enable financial institution customers, individuals or businesses, to access accounts, transact business, or obtain information on financial products and services through a public or private network, including the Internet. Customers access e-banking services using an intelligent electronic device, such as a personal computer (PC), personal digital assistant (PDA), automated teller machines (ATM), kiosk, or Touch Tone telephone. While the risks and controls are similar for the various e-banking access channels, this booklet focuses specifically on Internet-based services due to the Internet’s widely accessible public network. Accordingly, this booklet begins with a discussion of the two primary types of Internet websites: informational and tra nsactional. History of E-Banking At the early 1980s step by step modern home online banking services took the place of distance banking service. Online services started in New York in 1981 when four of the city’s major banks (Citibank, Chase Manhattan, Chemical and Manufacturers Hanover) offered home banking services using the videotext system, because that video text got commercial failure. This banking service never became popular except in France and UK. In France videotext (Minitel) was subsidised by the telecom provider and in the UK Prestel system was used. First UK bank which was setup home online banking services was Bank Of Scotland for the use of customers from Nottingham Building Society (NBS) in 1983. The system used was based on the UK’s Prestel system and used a computer, such as the BBC Micro, or keyboard (Tandata Td1400) connected to the telephone system and television set. The system was gave chance to customers to view their statements, bank transfers and bill payments. Stanford Federal Credit Union was the first financial institution to offer online internet banking services to all of its members in October 1994. Today, many banks are just virtual banks on the Internet. These banks don’t have real Branches instead they offering better interest rates and online banking features. Internet-Based You can access to your account information through bank’s website via modem connect to Internet Personal Finance Software Software such as Quicken or Microsoft Money allows you to exchange financial information with your bank. The software connected to Bank’s computer via Internet-Based. But your bank system must be compatible with this software. At this segment we want to describe what the advantages of this online banking system. 1. Pay your bill online You can use online banking to pay your bills. By using online banking system, you don’t have to worry for stamps again and it can protect yourself from the mistakes that you have done for example check that you have lost it in the mail. Most banks will have a section in which you set up payees. Effective and efficient Online banking conducts the transactions from the comfort of your home. It is wasting time and energy if we go to the bank. Rather than go directly to the bank, we can use the time and energy to do another more useful things. Paying bills online becomes easier because of this system. Many banks offer online calendars, which is use to assist us about the monthly payment of bills and prevent a thing called default. However, not all transactions can be done online. There are some transactions and actions that would require direct interaction with the bankers. 3. Free to use (access) Almost all the online banking services which are available right now are offered free by many banks to all who want to use it. But there are also some banks that charge a certain amount for using this online service system. Normally, bank that has many branches will have the online banking service system, but smaller banks may not have the online banking service. 4. View you transaction Online banking system allows you to access your account history and transactions anytime anywhere. By using this online banking system, you gain the quickest way to check your account and see if your account has cleared from the transaction that you have been made. This can help you to find out the amount of a transaction from the receipt that you have lost. It also allows you to find out any transactions that you didn’t make and it is there more quickly. And also this system can help you to resolve the issues that you have more quickly. 5. Transfer money between account Online banking system also allows you to transfer money between accounts much more quickly. It is more efficient than using the automated phone service, and can save you trip to the bank that can cost you some money. When you are using online banking system, make sure that all of the accounts that you have at the bank are listed. This will make you easier to transfer money to other account and make loan payments online if you wanted to. 6. Easy account maintenance By using online banking system account maintenance become very easy. Online Banking makes you easier to keep track of your balance and the activity of your accounts. For those who have multiple accounts in the same bank, many online banking systems allow you to check the balances of all of your accounts at once. Besides that, you can also easily go back and forth between your accounts and monitor their activity easily. 7. Account alert Online banking also got one system that user can use called account alert set up. This system sends an email or even text message to you based upon certain criteria that you have applied. For example, if you have any bill payment that is doubled or stated twice, there will be an electronic check is drafted and mailed, you could set up an alert to be sent to you advising when the bank has mailed out the payment. Other alerts like weekly activity alerts, statement alerts, and low balance alerts are also included. These alerts provided to monitor your account easier. The advantages of online banking are increasing every time. Banks realize that online banking have the potential for savings and also focus on the â€Å"Go Green† event by reducing the amount of paper usage. Over time, you will realize the convenience and cost effectiveness to your budget as you see the money and time saved by using this online banking system. Disadvantages Although online banking has many benefits or advantages for the customers, actually online banking also has some drawbacks or disadvantages. Here are some of the drawbacks or the disadvantages of online banking. 1. The most important drawbacks or disadvantages, which often occurs on the bank customers is about security issues. Hacker probably still could hack the customer’s online banking account although the online banking website is heavily encrypted. Some bank’s customers who use online banking, suddenly complaint to the bank because their money that saving in their bank account suddenly lost, stolen by unknown persons (refers to the hacker), and the bank cannot do anything. 2. Bank’s customers must have a User ID and Password for login on the online banking website. To get the User ID and the password, customers must come to the bank for applying online banking User ID and waiting for a moment for approval. Of course the customers will spend much time for doing that. 3. Online banking is hard to navigate at the first time. Many bank customers got confused when they had first time login at online banking site. Some bank customers got little-bit confused about the feature in the online banking websites at the first time. 4. Online banking cannot do withdraw the money directly. When you are lazy to go to ATM, if you want to do withdraw the money, of course you should go to the ATM to withdraw money. Except if you want to do money transfer, pay your bills, top up your mobile phone value, etc. , you can use online banking when you are lazy to go to the ATM, so you don’t need to go to ATM for doing that (transfer money, etc. ). So, if you are in case of emergency, need the money immediately, you cannot withdraw your money immediately via online banking. 5. Online banking has lack of trust. When you are using online banking for doing transaction, you may wondered whether you are doing the right thing or not, or you are doing transaction correctly or not, because you did not get the transaction receipt. So, you cannot make your own record because the receipt did not print. Printing the transaction statement is important, if someday there is mismatch of data with the bank’s data, maybe you will think that your money is lost. Impact of the Technology Of course we all already know the term e-banking. But, how much effect the changes caused by this technology to CIMB companies? In this section, we will explain what changes are happening with the e-banking system coming up. With the e-banking system, CIMB obtain higher profits than banks that do not use e-banking system. Why? Due to the existence of such systems, virtually CIMB will be open 24 / 7. So profits will be generated even greater because there is no limit of time if there is any customer that wanted to do some transactions. By having e-banking system, CIMB don’t need to have many buildings because all transactions can be done online. Which means any costumers that have internet access can access to his/her account without going to the bank itself and by doing that, CIMB will save more because they only need to have server rather than a new building in different areas which cost more money. By using e-banking, CIMB will have more satisfied customers because customers can do their transactions faster, easier, safer and more reliable. So people prefer to choose banks which have e-banking system. If many people join that kind of banks, the profit of that bank will automatically raise. Conclusion The Internet has grown exponentially, with more than 30 million users worldwide currently. The Internet enhances the interaction between two businesses as well as between individuals and businesses. As a result of the growth of the Internet, electronic commerce has emerged and offered tremendous market potential for today’s businesses. One industry that benefits from this new communication channel is the banking industry. Electronic banking is offering its customers with different services: Customers are able to be in touch with their banking accounts as well as make financial transactions from virtually anywhere without time wasting. Electronic Banking is offered by many banking due to pressures from competitions. In order for electronic banking to continue to grow, the security and the privacy aspects need to be improved. With the security and privacy issues resolved, the future of electronic banking can be very rosperous. The future of electronic banking will be a system where users are able to interact with their banks â€Å"worry-free† and banks are operated under one common standard. In this part, I want to explain about how human interact with the computer which is online banking to get what user wants. In order to get what the user desire, there must be some acts from the human because this system cannot work without any interaction from the user. While using this system, firstly users need to sign into the e-banking website which is CIMB-Click. To do some transactions in this part, users need to sign in by using their own registered ID. After that they need to choose what transactions will they do then the computer will redirect the user to the webpage they desire. E. g. transfer money. After getting to this kind of website, the system will ask for the amount of the money will the user transfer and which other account the user will transfer to. In case that the users still don’t have any registered ID in CIMB Click, they just simply need to fill some form that CIMB already provide. By doing that all, it proves that computer need some acts or interactions with the users while processing. Ergonomics Ergonomics is also important things that banks to notice. By ergonomics, it means that we must put some attentions to the user’s size. At ATM machine, banks design the machine in like a way so that any size of user will not have a hard time to use it. E. g. the height of the ATM machine, how the monitor facing and etc. System Failure System failure of a system can be caused by many things. Most of them are caused by the misact of the user themselves. At this segment will explain about what and why system fails. Lack of information This system failure happens because the system didn’t provide the user all the information that they need to use that system that will cause a system failure. Maybe for young user they still can use that system, but for old people, this system is very complicate because they don’t understand what should they do and that cause the system fail. Natural disaster Natural disaster can also make the system fail. For example if there is any bad weather such as thunder storm and raining hardly can cause the internet down and because internet down, automatically we also cannot use the online banking. Technical issues Talking about technical issues, there are actually two kinds of technical issues. The first one is internal technical issues. This system failure usually caused by the error of the program or software which that system using. If we applied to e-banking, we can say that we cannot draw some money from the ATM because there are any technical issues with the server. This is called system failure. The second one is the external technical issues. This system failure usually caused by the error of the hardware which that system using. In e-banking, usually external kinds of technical issues can be found if there is any problem with the for example hard drive, monitor, etc. Human Health Concern In human aspects of computing, health concern also one of the important topic. Why? Because if didn’t concern about health while using some technologies which is available right now, people will suffer the negative effect of technology. For example computer stressed injuries. What is a computer stress injury? Usually many people seat in front of their computer for a long time because they are working or doing something else. This can cause people to have a fair amount of computer stress, from minor amounts of frustrations and become huge frustrations. By having a high level of stress can actually kill people themselves. Most of the worker which have a high level of stress may have a higher risk of having a heart diseases or even cancer. So by knowing that e-banking system should have a more simpler kinds of progress so people can get it through without any stress or sitting in front of the computer too long. Recommendation Judging by the similarities and differences that I discuss, e-banking should have more reliable and saver system such as server, prog rams, and way to use it because all this elements can effects the user’s satisfaction. The higher or lower profits of will the bank get depends on high or lower the customer satisfaction. And also bank should make the system easier so aged people can use this system and less consuming time for the customers who use this system. References Alex. 2008. Healthy Healthy List. Top 4 Health Problems Caused By Computer Use. [online]. Available at: http://heheli. com/business/top-4-health-problems-caused-by-computer-use. [Accessed 29 October 2010] Security Issue Nowadays technologies had effected on smallest matters of our life. It changed that how we behave to other people and how we do business today. As result of Internet and new technologies, Electronic Commerce has come out, allowing trades easily be in touch with their customers and other companies inside and outside of their industries. One of the important industries that use these new technologies is Electronic Banking. Elec tronic Banking systems lead the demanding of customers to new things compare to before, demand for any time any where services, and products with respect to demanding of customers change and get more complicate. According to these complication and changes of banking systems, discuss the security on Electronic Banking become so disturbing and important. They are some tips that should care about side, customer and bank. First we are going to mention the tips that customer must care about them: Phishing Phishing happen when you an E-mail, text message and IM that shows to be from your bank. If you click on the link and enter your username and password, you may be giving your information to another person. You must always know that your bank never going to contact you in this way or never ask you to provide your username and password. Hackers will create banking website exactly same looks with your real bank website. Saved Username and Password For your Tranquility, many online browsers like Safari, Internet Explorer (IE), Firefox and Google Chrome will automatically save your passwords and usernames to login to your account for the next time that you use it. If the computer that you are using is ever lost or stolen or if you are using a public computer that other people may have access to, they may have access to your information. This matter can be avoided by not allowing your username or password to be saved when these Internet providers ask you to save your username and password. Viruses Viruses, which are created by hackers, are group of codes that can cause different things to happen when it installs on a PC or network. Viruses can collect personal information or your login information. Using a good anti-virus software and do not click on suspicious emails or links that you do not know can protect you from viruses. Now we are going to talk about Security on E-banking for Banks: ATM By using of ATM Machine you can withdraw cash money from your account. You ha ve to put your bank account inside the machine, and then the machine will ask you for the password. Usually, when you apply for ATM Card from your bank, your bank will ask you to put in your Card in to the ATM Machine for the first time and change your password. Usually the banks have limit to withdraw money from your account per day, this is for preventing of abusing your card. It means that if you lost your card and sadly someone find your card and find out your password, he/she can’t withdraw from your account more than limit of the day before you report about your card to your bank. Semantic Personal Deixis Essay

Semantic Personal Deixis Essay Semantic: Personal Deixis Essay How do the concepts of ‘anaphora’ and ‘deixis’ help to determine more precisely the functions of pronouns? Discuss, giving examples to support your argument. According to Strawson,â€Å"a use of a single term invokes a mental file in the mind of the interpreter and is successful only if the interpreter actually connects the singular term with the right mental file†. Although most words will mean the same regardless of the speaker and the time of the utterance, some words such as pronouns, can have a different meaning depending on the context. It is therefore necessary for the speaker(s) and the hearer(s) to manage to understand each other. Deixis and Anaphora are two concepts that help to clarify the different uses and functions of pronouns. It also ensures that all the participants of a speech act are constantly on the same wavelength regarding the topic(s) of their utterances. Deixis is reference to the orientation or position of entities by means of an expression whose interpretation is relative to the extralinguistic context of the utterance; such as who is speaking (personal deixis), the place (special deixis) or the time of t he speaking (temporal deixis). Anaphora is coreference of one expression with its antecedent. The antecedent provides the information necessary for the expression’s interpretation. Although pronouns used in deictic and anaphora will be treated separately, it is important to keep in mind that some can be used anaphorically and deictically at the same time. Personal Deixis in conversation include the speaker (I,we) ,the address (you) and sometimes a third party( he ,she they). They allow us to identify ourselves or someone else through our utterances. The most common way to do it is by using the pronouns I and the pronoun You. However these pronouns differ with respect to the person who makes the utterance. They are necessary in conversations where each person constantly change from being I to being You or seen from a different perspective. For example ,I am having a conversation with my friend Manuel : G :I think you should exercise more often Manuel M:Well†¦ I think you should mind your business. In the first utterance, I used to pronoun I to refer to myself and the pronoun You to identify my friend, however the I in the second utterance no longer identified me but my friend Manuel who was speaking. Personal deixis also show how gender, number and social status are identified and differentiated through the uses of pronouns. First, gender is usually marked in third person pronouns, in French il for masculine and elle for feminine or English with he for masculine and she for feminine. In some other languages like Ngala both the first and second person have a masculine and a feminine form. When the pronoun he in English is used the hearer automatically knows that he should be looking for a male. In a room full of women, having a pronoun to refer to the only man rather than having to describe his features ma kes it easier to identify the specific person. Then number is pointed out by different pronouns. Ellas and ellos in Spanish. Again, personal deixis make it easier to understand who is concerned. For instance when Ricardo say: Ellas son pequeà ±as. ¿puedes buscar conmigo ? ( they are small, could you look for them with me?) The other person will automatically know that he/she

A Review On Nelson Mandela History Essay

A Review On Nelson Mandela History Essay Nelson Mandela, the first democratic South Africa president was not just a great leader due to her leadership skills and traits, but also because he was a leader with a vision, persistence and courage. He is considered one of the greatest leaders of 21st century and a hero to many for his actions and personality. Nelson is a great leader, a leader other modern leaders need to emulate, if they need to fight corruption and provide the best leadership to those below them. Nelson Mandela aka Madiba was a leader by birth and a leader to the end as until today many people see him as a leader although retired. In his first year in Fort Hare University, he started involving himself in the council representing students, called SRC, which was opposing harsh and unfair policies in the University. After retiring in 1999, he went ahead and formed organizations to help other people mostly those with HIV in South Africa. Mandela was a leader with a vision that he ensured it was fulfilled no matter the hindrances. During his trial, he said that he had fought the dominion of white and that of black people and he was ready to die to ensure that all people had the same rights, irrespective of their race. During his 27 years in jail, he continued to influence and fight apartheid through his wife Winnie Mandela. He even studied a bachelor in law from London External Program University while still in the prison with no hope of when he was to be released. In all times, Mandela was a leader who sacrificed himself for the benefit of other. He sacrificed his youth and life to fight against racialism. At age of 20, he was still involved in fighting apartheid. He even went to jail for 27 years just because of his stand of equal rights to white, black and colored people. After being in jail for 27 years for his country, he became the president for only four years and then retired in order to give chance for another leader to lead South Africa (Klerk, 2). Moreover, he even sacrificed his g ood peaceful retirement just to cater for those people with HIV and AIDs and those poor. These are great sacrifices that not all leaders mostly todayà ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚ ¢s leaders can be able to do just for the sake of those under them. An influential characteristic was one of his traits. To support this, when he was in first year, he was ordered to leave the University due to his involvement in boycotts and his great influence which the university saw as a threat. They even black mailed him by asking him to be elected in SRC if he wanted to remain a student in the university. Another indication that he is an influential person is that still when in prison, he was able to gain supporters both inside and outside the prison with the help of his wife Winnie. When he came out of prison, all people with one voice wanted him to become the president even the former president, as he was able to convince all that he was indeed the leader they were looking for.

Personal statement Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 1

Personal statement - Essay Example To be specific, my father is the president of a local bank in China. My father and mother have always been interested in their jobs, and they frequently used to discuss financial problems and solutions. In addition, when I was a high school student, I used to look through books beyond my textbooks. For instance, I used to read my parents’ books related to management and business law. Obviously, these books were useful to them as bank employees, and they were stimulating to me as a person developing an increasingly deeper interest in economics. Gradually, I came to realize that learning economics could help me to have a secure life in the future. My work experience and internship include some basic work in a local bank in China. For example, during last summer vacation, I worked as a teller. This helped me to have practical experience in dealing with customers. Moreover, this internship helped me to acquire the basic skills that are essential to a bank employee. Now, I realize that work experience and internship are most helpful for an individual who is aiming to be a bank employee. So, I gained the basic skills in customer care, especially the skill to deal with short-tempered customers. My core courses at City College have included macro-economics, micro-economics, Statistics, Calculus- Biology, Social Science and Business. These courses have helped to develop my interest in the major. For instance, all these courses, except Social Science, are related to the theoretical area of banking. On the other side, Social Science relates to the practical matter of customer relations. The course subjects like macro-economics, micro-economics, Statistics, Calculus at City College and major requirements at the University of California are same. Besides, I am particularly interested in macro-economics and micro-economics, especially the theories like Classical Economics and New Classical Economics and theory of Demand. The classes at City College sparked my curiosit y in the subject in part because macro-economics was familiar to me. Later, I discussed this matter with my parents and they encouraged me in my habit of reading books. The lecture classes at City College have also helped me to grasp new concepts and even to develop some ability to predict the ups and downs in the banking sector. Prompt #2 In China, one’s family is the most influential factor in one’s individual growth and development. As far as I am concerned, my family is clearly the most important motivation behind my personal growth. However, when I immigrated to the United States of America, I discovered the amalgamative power of American culture. For instance, it would seem that an individual who is so close to his or her family might face a number of problems on his own in a different culture. In America, however, I did not feel any difficulties because it is a multicultural society. Larry L Naylor opined that â€Å"In fact, many Americans believe that culture does come from their families where they learned their family traditions and their heritage† (1). I was aware of the fact that I needed to let myself be absorbed into the core of the American society. To be specific, personal qualities like receptiveness and open-mindedness can be helpful for an individual to accept a different culture. As an open minded individual, I was able to gain a number of friends at the College. Besides, the multicultural atmosphere of the College campus helped me to be open-minded and receptive towards others who are from

How technology has affected you as a translator Essay

How technology has affected you as a translator - Essay Example The work can easily be sent and received across the cultural and natural borders. The translator may work for its clients from anywhere in the world. The market for the translator is not just limited to their own city or country. However translation is still considered to be a service whose dependence is based on high degree of trust between the translators and their clients. The translator may receive his high pay work mostly from the unseen clients living across the borders, as fees paid to the translators in different countries may vary, however the translators still believe that the best clients are made face to face. Technology has made the distribution of the large translation jobs quite easy between the intermediaries. Suppose if the client wants to market its product in 15 other languages, they would simply hire a marketing company. It is the job of the marketing firm to hire different brokers who then assign this job to a number of translation companies that further allocate the task to the translators that are often are freelancers. In such a case the company is usually paying at least three times more of what the freelance translator receives. However if the company directly assign the task to any freelancer then it be an advantage for the company as well as the freelance translator, as the company will be paying less for the same job and the translator will be receiving more. Technology has played a significant role in increasing the benefits for the translators; however the various consequences of the electronic communication have also increased the security risk. Translators are usually working on the material that is out of the public domain. This is what makes trust such an important factor in this business. Therefore while sending and receiving a file the translator must be aware of secure FTP, various forms of zipping and of encoding. There is no

The Beatles :: Essay on The Beatles

The Beatles were an extremely popular and influential group in Rock n' Roll. My question is, "Why?" What drew thousands upon thousands of screaming fans to these four British musicians? Was it something in the sound of the instruments? Could it have been the bass beat, or maybe the guitar playing? What about their lyrics? They had a certain personality, too. Was that it? Let's look at each of these, and some other factors as well. What is the first thing you wonder when you hear something new on the radio? You wonder who sings it. The first thing you see when you pick up an album is who sings or performs it. Hmm? This suggests the power of a catchy title. Something out of the ordinary to catch the eye. Something misspelled, perhaps? The Beetles? No, The Beatles. What's in their name? In the words of Beatle John Lennon, "when you hear it, the name is little crawly things. When you see it, it's"beat" music." I think that's quite attractive to a record store browser, don't you? Of course, another thing that could catch a browsing customer would be the pictures on the album. The fronts of record albums are versatile that way because one can fit a lot on them. I have looked at the images on a few Beatles' records and, I must say, they are rather attractive and flashy. One particular cover that I was able to view is an album that went unreleased due to its picture. On the cover there is a photograph of The Beatles in a butcher shop with carcasses hanging around them; it certainly caught the eye. On another album, the boys were all dressed up in Spanish bullfighter uniforms that were gaudy enough to catch the eye of a blind man. The sounds that the ear hears in a song are without a doubt important to the person's opinion of that song. To examine the sound of the instruments, I played the Anthology music through a stereo with adjustable graphic equalizers. On a few songs, I isolated the bass, and therefore the bass beat, then the treble, which includes vocals and guitar, and finally, the background, which is mostly Ringo's drums. The first thing I noticed was a particularly catchy beat. It was generally quick and moderately heavy. This would seem to be easy to dance, or toe tap, to. I also listened intently to the guitar throughout the songs, especially the guitar solos. George Harrison plays solos in "I Saw Her Standing There" and "Money", that sound quick and surge forth with an ear catching sound.

College Essay Essay

Do we send students to college to grow personally and intellectually or strictly to develop work related skills? In your opinion what should be the purpose of a college education and what do you hope to gain from your personal experience? College is a big step for anyone, especially teenagers, who is still growing up. Unlike in high school where the main focus is the curriculum, college also focuses on developing personality. College is not about papers and tests; it is about growing personally and intellectually while developing work related skills to help in life. A college education involves more than books and tests. It should be an experience a student should never forget. At Southwestern University, the school motto is â€Å"Be Southwestern. † To â€Å"Be Southwestern† students have to be determined and focused. To â€Å"Be Southwestern† students have to be involved. During my visit to Southwestern University, I noticed that for such a small school there are so many opportunities available to learn in variety of environments and participate in campus life. At Southwestern University the campus life consists of music, plays, Greek life, athletic events, religious interests, and preparation for the study abroad program. I have never been out of this country, and one thing I like about Southwestern is the study abroad program. Personally, I have always wanted to go to Italy. Not just because I am in love with Italian food but because it’s so different from America. I want to go to a college that allows me to see the world and experience new things. A college education should help you meet your desire to explore and interact with the world around you. Another thing I like about Southwestern University is how much help is available for students from professors. I want to go to a college that has small class sizes and cares about me as an individual. Every Southwestern University student I’ve talked to has said the professors will know who you are, will always be available for assistance, and will always help you succeed. At Southwestern University, a student is not just a number. The professors there are dedicated to a student’s personal success. Instead of going to a tutor, a student can schedule a simple meeting with the professor to discuss theclass. A little help can go a long way. As a student at Southwestern University, I hope to continue to strengthen my sense of pride and leadership. I have played the game of softball my entire life and hope to continue to play competitively in college. In my college softball experience, I hope to gain a greater inspiration to push myself harder than ever before both, academically and athletically. I hope one day when I look back on my college career I can say that Southwestern made me the student-athlete I always wanted to be. Through my college experiences, I will see the world in a new perspective, developing new intellectual light in a variety of subjects, and engaging in challenging curriculum and discussions. I want to find out who I am and what kind of person I will become, and I strongly believe Southwestern University will help me do that. A college education should additionally develop an individual’s appreciation for history. I go to a high school that is starting to make its history; however, I want to go to a university that has its history already established. As the oldest school in Texas, Southwestern University has many traditions. I want to be able to engage in these traditions and perhaps help make some new ones while I’m there. I don’t just want to be a part of history – I want to make history. A college experience should be one of the best times in a person’s life. The professors, the activities, and the history of the school should help one develop personally and intellectually as a student. I know that my time spent at Southwestern University will make me stronger, confident, and a more independent thinking individual who is ready to face not only challenge of working environment but also whatever life throws at me.
